Link to Berkeley Community Media Auction on Ebay
The “Tune In, Turn On, Drop Off Your Stuff” eBay auction is a one of a kind fundraising event to benefit Berkeley Community Media taking place on Sunday, June 25th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. This is a easy way to put your unused garage items, overstock items or special services to good use supporting free speech and youth programs at BCM.Donations in the form of items over $50 in value, or services you are willing to offer are encouraged. Call Berkeley Community Media, and they will pick up your item at no charge. Help Berkeley Community Media meet their goal of $12,000 and support public access programs, help keep Berkeley youth broadcast workshops, and get publicity for your business. For more information call (510) 848-2288 or go to http://www.betv.org.
Those who give donations will receive publicity and services, depending on the value of their items. Items worth between $100-$250 receive a Community Bulletin Board page on channel 28, thanks on the Berkeley Community Media website and in the next newsletter. Items worth between $250-$500 receive all of the above as well as a free membership to Berkeley Community Media giving you access to video training and media facilities in addition to the above. Items worth more than $500 receive a whole round of workshops in addition to the above. Items worth more than $1000 will also receive free video production services in addition to the above.
Berkeley Community Media is dedicated to community access to the media by and for Berkeley residents. B-TV Channel 28, the community access television station, and B-TV Channel 33 that airs City Council and other government meetings is run by Berkeley Community Media. They also provide low-cost classes, access to video equipment, editing suites and studios, a popular internship program, and ongoing advocacy with the City and Comcast to protect and enhance these resources for Berkeley residents. Their mission is to build an electronic free speech forum in order to encourage democratic involvement and build community.
Here’s how it works:
- Call BCM with your donations and we’ll come and pick them up, or you can drop them off at the station at 2239 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
- We will then put the items up for auction on eBay through missionfish.org which will assure that all the proceeds go to Berkeley Community Media.
- Since BCM is a non-profit 501©3 organization you can then deduct the full price of your item from your taxes for 2006 and get publicity for yourself or your business!
- Then on June 25 th, BCM will host a two hour on-air auction on channel 28 featuring local acts and special guests speaking about their (or your) business, service and support of free speech television.
Our goal for this fundraiser is $12,000 so we need you to contribute. Give us a call at 848-2288 extension 10 and let us know what you have to give. Keeping electronic media accessible to the Berkeley community is what BCM is all about so give freely and support this vital forum for local expression, activism and change.
