Convert DVDs to Quicktime Movie! FREE for Berkeley residents, $10 non-Berkeley residents. (No membership required) 1 session

May 8, 22 June 5, 26 or July 9, 23 (Choose ONE session)

This one hour workshop teaches you how to get those files ready for editing on Final Cut Pro X and Uploading to You Tube and Vimeo. The teacher will demonstrate, step by step, how to convert DVDs you have created into mpeg4 files. By the end of the workshop you will have mastered these skills.

Express Studio (First time Berkeley residents FREE, $20.00 (BCM members), $60 (Non-Members) 1 session

May 23 or May 30 6-8pm 

BCM’s Express studio can be operated by just one person and that person could be you!  Learn how to switch video, monitor audio, and trigger graphics,  all at the same time.  Students will learn the skills and gain the experience they need to begin producing simple shows in our Express Studio.

Final Cut Pro Version X  $99.00   3 sessions

 May 6, 13, 20  Mondays from 6-9pm

This class will introduce you to the world of non-linear editing using Apple's Final Cut Pro.   You will learn different editing styles and in the process, acquire the skills needed to edit your own project.  Final Cut Pro is a world famous Mac based application that has become the industry standard for film makers such as the Coen brothers and Walter Murch.  This workshop certifies you to make reservations in our editing lab.

After Effects Workshop $125.00  4 sessions

Dates TBA Saturdays 9am-Noon

This course introduces the student to creating 2D motion graphics using Adobe After Effects. Students will explore the basic tools and compositing techniques to produce motion graphics and animations. Hands-on course for creating digital effects for broadcast TV, film and the Web. Learn to create 3D space, image composition, text effects, track mattes and the Puppet Tool. Experience with Adobe Photoshop is recommended. Class size is limited to only 4 students.

Field Production  $80.00   4 sessions

June 5, 8, 12, and 15 Wednesdays 6-9pm and Saturdays 3-6pm

This core class offers hands on training with 3 chip digital video cameras, microphones, mixers, monitors, and lighting kits for your productions shot on location.  Learn shooting techniques and use of accessories to produce high quality video and audio.  We'll also discuss equipment safety and check out procedures.  Students will be given projects to complete during the class culminating in a final group project.  Successful completion of this class will certify you to check out equipment.  We will be using the Sony PD-150 and PD-170 cameras. This workshop will focus on JVC GY-HM100U HD cameras and will cover everything from how to white balance, focus, expose and record audio to the special considerations of shooting HD.                                                                                               

This just in...hand held apple product operating systems (ios) will also be included in the field production class. Bring your ipod, ipad mini or ipad to discover the best Apps and techniques for producing the updated "home movie," creating content for TV, or a PSA on location for your Organization! All included in Field Production Certification.

Studio Production  $80.00  4 sessions

April 23, 25, 30, and May 2 OR June 4, 6, 11, and 13 Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9pm

Make your own TV shows or films in our full-service Large Studio, the biggest studio in the East Bay!  Or, choose our simple and easy to use Express Studio which can be operated by just one technician.  This 4-part class will show you the basics of all aspects of studio production, from camera and lighting to audio and graphics.  Take turns on crew positions as you produce actual shows.  Get certified and then it's your turn to create your own shows.

On - Camera Workshop for T.V. Hosts and Spokespersons  $25.00 (BCM Members) $35.00 (non-members) Free to Berkeley Residents with New Membership

This fun hands on class will focus on developing a professional and charismatic style of delivery while also teaching basic on-camera skills. This is designed for all levels of students who wish to work as a host or on-camera spokesperson.

Taught by Mike Vaughn who has been a working actor for over thirty years and has appeared in dozens of national and regional commercials, training films and many other on-camera projects. He holds a B.A. in Broadcasting and M.A. in Education. He is the Director of Education for Berkeley Community Media

Learn how to create those special effects and moods for your production in our TV studio.  Must be certified in Studio Production.

Lighting Clinic  May 1 6-9pm
Practice various lighting effects to achieve the desired mood of your production.  Professional theater lighting grid allows subtle switching and change of focus from one subject to another. Must be certified in Studio Production.
